The President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), represents an historic five-year expansion of U.S. Government resources to fight malaria in the region most affected by the disease. The President committed an additional $1.2 billion in malaria funding to this Initiative with the goal of reducing malaria-related deaths by 50 percent in 15 focus countries.

In 2008 and 2009, Bonnie contributed cover photographs to the PMI Annual Reports, as well as success stories and numerous photographs from Tanzania, Uganda and Madagascar to highlight the life-saving impact of PMI at a community level.
